Save the Brown Sugar

I purchased some brown sugar the other day while in a rush, and didn't take the time to make sure it was fresh.  Low and behold when I got home and tried to use it, it was a hard as a rock!  Look at it!  it wasn't gonna break apart for anything.  This thing would have made a great paper weight though. LOL  As I was talking with a friend about what I was gonna do with it, since I didn't want to waste it, she suggested I put it in a sealed container with a slice of bread.  Really?  This can't really work, I thought.  But she guaranteed me it would, so here we are.  I'm gonna show you exactly what happened.

Here is my "brick" of brown sugar

I sliced of an end of my whole wheat bread...

broke up the bread into four pieces and placed them both in a rubbermaid container.

Put on the lid and about 12 hours later...

had a half softened block of brown sugar!  NO WAY!

So I cut up one more slice of bread, sealed the container again and let it sit for another 12 hours.

It worked!!!!

I am still amazed!  So the next time you get stuck with a "brick" of what is supposed to be brown sugar, seal it in a container with a slice of bread, and let it work it's magic.
