Let's face it, mornings tend to be rushed and not the family bonding time TV shows STILL make them out to be. Well at least not in my house. But, just because we are busy trying to get our day started doesn't mean we need to fill ourselves up of sugary cereal. Not only is it not the optimal healthy way to start our day, but if we a truthful, it just doesn't stick with you. You know, kind of like Chinese food. You eat it, and an hour later you're hungry again. LOL People, we have other options, and it doesn't have to be complicated!!!
Are you using your menu planner? To help keep my sanity in the kitchen I MUST take advantage of menu planning even for breakfasts! Because a little thought beforehand goes a LONG way, even stretching my grocery budget when shopping, it is a must new habit to develop. That's right, I said habit. This didn't come naturally to me at first either. I too was a give my kids cereal mom. After all the commercials say it's healthy and fortified, so it must be good for them, right? After many false starts, I think I finally have it down.
Just remember it's all about trying to make our lives simpler, not more stressful. Start by keeping a list off regularly made breakfasts on hand. Then just rotate them through the week. It really is that simple.
You may be asking, “Why not just make whatever in the midst of your rushed morning?” My answer is that for me, my brain doesn't function that well that early in the morning. LOL Yes, I admit it, I am one of the homeschooling moms who gets up with the kids in the morning and secretly wishing she could just crawl right back into bed.... well at least until my second cup of coffee anyway. ;)
Anyhow, here is my personal list of rotated breakfast meals.
Homemade Cream of Wheat
Plain Muffins
Easy Baked French Toast
Biscuits n Gravy (I use store bought gravy mix, cause I need to keep it simple)
Pancakes
Waffles (Yes I use the pancake mix & make them ahead of time, freeze them and pop in the toaster to reheat!)
Cream of Rice
Scrambled Eggs & Toast
Breakfast burritos
