Homemade Hamburger & Hot Dog Buns

Homemade Hamburger Buns

I LOVE this recipe, and so do my kids!  They are hard to keep around!  Just a quick look at the ingredients will tell you why. LOL  But here they are, soft, delicious and crumb free just like the ones at the store!  Did I mention how fabulous they are?!!!  lol  You have got to try these!

1 cup + 2 Tablespoons Water
1/3 C Oil
2 Teaspoons Yeast
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour

Bake at 400* F for 10 minutes

Mix water, yeast and sugar.  Let sit for 10 minutes to proof your yeast. (let it start growing)  It's ok to let it go longer, you want lots of bubbles on top.

Add oil, egg, salt and flour and mix well.  Dough will me slightly sticky to the touch.  Grease your hands and a large bowl (cooking spray works well for this) and place dough into your bowl to rise in a warm place.

When dough has doubled in size, punch down and form your hot dog buns or hamburger buns.  NOTE: you are not making halfs, you are making a whole bun which will be sliced once cooled.

For a hamburger bun, hold the dough in your hands, and squeeze a small bun out the top and pinch off by squeezing your thumb and index finger together.

For a hot dog bun, take your hamburger bun and roll out like a snake or bread stick.  Try not to taper your ends or our buns will hold that shape as they rize.  Try to keep the bun even all the way down.

It may take some practice to get all your buns the same size, but they are definately worth the effort!
